Do I need to remove asbestos or can I keep it in place?
Asbestos materials that are not weathered or broken and that are in good condition are a low risk to your health. They can be kept in place or covered over. Remember though that asbestos materials age and deteriorate, like anything else. If you keep them in place now, assess their condition in future and have a plan in case they need to be removed.
Can I remove asbestos myself?
You will need to follow strict safety precautions to protect yourself and others before, during and after the removal process. Removing asbestos requires careful planning, preparation and decontamination. Removing asbestos yourself or by a tradesperson or handy person can only be done if less than 10 square metres of bonded (non-friable) asbestos is removed.
